OK kids! Ready?

I want this to be a speed round that can be played in a night.

So, just before 6PM EST, I will pick the winning selections. Players get one guess from the top of the hour to the bottom of the hour. No guesses again until the top of the hour. Strict time limit will be enforced!

If you post at xx:31 - it will be discarded. This will include corrections! If you typo and do not have it reposted correctly before the bottom of the hour - it will be discarded. Players: if you see another player has typo'd - point it out, in case I don't catch it in time. Otherwise, you lose a clue, too!

Same "final answer" rule will apply if you post 2 times within the same half hour.

Now the twist. There will be a "powerball" currency, just like in the lottery. If you happen to guess the "powerball", it will be scored as being in the correct position, no matter where you have it in your selections.

I'm going to cut the field of currencies down to 80 to speed it up.

*************EDIT ON SCORING *************************************
Your "powerball" selection will be listed at the end of your regular 8 selections. The powerball guess will only be graded against the powerball answer. The other 8 currencies will be graded as usual, except, if the powerball selection is within your guess of 8, it will be scored as being the right position, no matter what position it is in.

Examples:
Let's say the answer is:
AUD, CAD, CHF, EUR, GBP, JPY, NZD, USD and the powerball is XAU.

A guess is posted as:
XAU, ZAR, YER, XPT, XDR, TWD, TRY, SZL and *PYG, the answer will be 1/1 because the powerball currency has been selected.

A guess is posted as:
ZAR, YER, XPT, XDR, TWD, TRY, SZL, SAR and *AUD, the answer will be 0/0. Even though AUD is in the answer, it is only scored against the powerball currency.

A guess is posted as:
AUD, CAD, XAU, YER, XPT, XDR, TWD, TRY and *USD, the answer will be 3/3. (AUD and CAD are in the right place. XAU is the powerball, but USD is only scored against the powerball, so does not get recognized as a hit).

So, you can get credit for the powerball being within your answer, but you will not get credit for one of the currencies listed as your powerball.

That ought to stir things up!

******************************************************************

Up for grabs will be a small lot of Buffalo nickels that I have picked up along the way, most are F, a couple VF's. A few may only be VG, but it's the thought process (on your part) that counts!

Please be an active participant to be eligible for the prize! I.E., no "snipers". It's not fair to the players that have been posting the clues to get sniped. If you are going to sit there and do the puzzle anyway, post some guesses!

If you are new and want to know how to play, let me know and I will repost the instructions.

Any questions?

Sounds like guessing is open for 1/2 hour.. so 6:00 to 6:30, 7:00 to 7:30 etc. Nice move, it will give Scooby a chance to catch up and give answers

As for typos, what do you mean we lose a clue?

The way that I read that is every guess, no matter who makes it, is a clue to the solution to the puzzle. So if your guess is disqualified, it is a clue that we all lose out on.
Right Scooby?

If you typo and list a currency that's not in the list, I will try to catch it in time for you to correct it. But, it must be corrected before the half hour is up or that clue is discarded.

So, if you see someone else has typo'd, feel free to let them know. After all, I will be starting this while I'm at work and may not e able to point it out in time.

Is the powerball required to win the final solution? Essentially, we need to find 9 currenies.

Do not underestimate the power of the mind, obi-xshift-kenobi.

I like the way Wolf puts it, your minds will be "mush" - mua huaa huaa (insert evil laugh smiley here).

Well, we'll see if it comes to that. If it does, I will give everyone a one hour notice before a nap and we'll continue again tomorrow after coffee! But, I usually stay up pretty late anyway.

By the way, I meant to add that your "final answer" can be at anytime, it does not have to be between the top and bottom of the hour.

Should we go with just 6 selections plus the powerball?

Going with 6 may be counter productive. It means that 73 currencies will need to be eliminated six at a time (12 guesses). If there were 8 currencies then the likelyhood of finding the correct ones could be done in 9 guesses. Sorting them out may take longer though.

I think the powerball is going to make it much harder. I doubt this will be done by morning.

We are going to go with 6 selections plus the powerball (7 total).

I have already made the winning selection. So, if I get a little busy here at work and forget to fire the starting gun, you may start posting at 6PM EST.
