What are the differences in paper between the regular and special types? Does is feel any different, is it visible, etc... Haven't had the oppurtunity to see one in person, trying to find some to purchase.

No detectable differences whatsoever (to me anyway) even on XF examples. You should have no trouble locating a set. They are fairly common.

I hear they are also VERY easy to duplicate and that the fakes are very common as well. I read something about how to tell based on the serial numbers but I would have to look it up because I don't remember. Aha! Wikipedia comes through:

Series 1935A notes made of the special paper were printed with a red "S" to the right of the treasury seal and notes of the control group were printed with a red "R". Fake red S's and R's have been applied to regular Series 1935A notes to try and pass them at a higher value; checking a note's serial numbers can prevent this. Serial numbers of the are group range from S70884001C-S7206800C and serial numbers of the S group range from S73884001C-S7506800C.

Maybe the experiment was so successful that they don't exist

A third issue of experimental notes, in Series 1935A, was conducted somewhat differently. This time, the serial numbers used were in sequence with the ordinary production; the experimental notes were identified by large red letters "R" and "S", for regular and special paper respectively, overprinted on the face of the notes to the right of the seal. The "R" notes were numbered S 708 84001 C through S 720 68000 C and * 911 76001 A through * 911 88000 A, and the "S" notes were numbered S 738 84001 C through S 750 68000 C and * 911 88001 A through * 912 00000 A.

Here's a nice pair for those of you WITH disposable income :)

Bvalania, there is a rather nice pair on ebay right now (six days to go I think). Rather hyped up, but nice.
