Hi, just bought my first batch of uncleaned coins, spent some weeks soaking in olive oil, gentle soft brushing, seems it is getting to a stage where you can actually see something. Now I don't know more, Need the Guru's on the forum too please help identifying this one. Does this look real, period, name, value etc, etc , please help.
Your coin is a "follis", struck in the name of Emperor Licinius I. Obverse inscription: IMP LICI behind the head, continuing with NIVS AVG in front of the face. On the back, the legend VIRTVS EXERCIT (Valour of the Army) surrounds a standard inscribed VOT X (Ten-Year Vow); two captives are seated below the standard, with control letters S - F to either side. The mintmark, AQS, is in the exergue (below the "ground-line") and stands for the second mint-house of Aquileia, a city in what is now northern Italy on the coast between Venice and Trieste.
