Hi,
I think that there is something on right ribbon but maybe is surface mark.
Can you help me with No in Krause for this coin?

The location of the "V" mark is indicated with anarrow.

Now, there's no incuse "S" on the truncation on the obverse, 19 berries, no diamonds, "V" on the right bow. Sounds like it's KM#457.7, Madras mint.

But wait!
Is that some kind of "M" on the end of the left ribbon and a dot after the date?

That should make it KM#457.12 but that one is supposed to have 34 berries. Go figure!

Sometimes I hate Krause.

Now I start seeing an "S" on the truncation. Is there one or not?

I believe we have an "S"

India-1840-Silver-Coin---Type?

The only thing for sure I could tell you - it was minted in Madras. To attribute it any further one needs something better than the Krause.

Quote from the Krause:

Quote:
There are several minor varieties of the first reverse [19 berries], but these are not listed.

I think that there are W.W. incuse and "V" raised on truncation. Similar to this coin:

I don't believe that Type I (your example, KM#457) is supposed to have WW on truncation. Krause doesn't mention it for this type. On the other hand Type II (KM#458) does have the initials, and Krause says that.
I just checked my coins and confirmed what I said above: type I was without WW, type II was with the initials. I don't see them (besides S) on your pictures.

Hm-m-m... Mine has 19 berries and a dot after the date, but was minted in Calcutta.
I need to stare at different coins for a while, the more I look at yours the more I doubt its authenticity. All examples I've seen have nice crisp font, on yours the date and the legend look mushy. Maybe it's just Madras mint ...

Coin looks ok to me. In my Krause (2007) Madras with "S" incuse is listed as "Rare" without price.
But 456.2 and 456.3 are Madras with W. W. incuse and B or S raised.
My letters are worn maybe but I think that there is WW.
