I am an old guy now, but during my high school in the '60's, a school buddy of mine had a large shoebox of mint fresh German inflation notes of 1922. They were all crisp flat uncirculated, perhaps 2000 notes in the box. At the time, we thought they were next to worthless, and at that time, even in retrospect they were nearly worthless. (I wonder what the value of a crisp flat uncirculated German inflation 1000 or 10,000 mark is worth now?) We sold them to almost every other kid in school at threepence each. At the time even our customers thought we were making a killing. The headmaster got onto us eventually, and said that the school grounds could not be used for commercial purposes, so that put the kybosh on our newly created enterprise.
What did I do with my share of the profits? I bought a trainset, which was the envy of my friends, and after leaving school, I sold that train set and bought myself a Double Eagle!
