The title of the book is something along those lines, but it is a Red Book publication. I flipped through it in Barnes and Nobles tonight.

It SEEMS like a solid book for general Morgan dollar information.

It looks like there is a whole page of information devoted to every mint mark of every date that takes up half the book. Is this helpful or just overkill?

What are the pros and cons of the book?

What does the book do well in and what is it lacking?

Hi Matt, I think there is not one answer in many respect....there are many books out there, I have not personally seen the book your talking about, however I have a dozen or so from photoGrade , the ANA official standard of grading and NGC's book ECT ECT...I think if your looking for knowledge its going to have to come from more than one...My personal favorite is the
The Comprehensive Encyclopedia of US Morgan and Peace Silver Dollars.
By Leroy Van Allen and A. George Malis
this is the Vamers main encyclopedia, but I'm talking about the full story behind the coins, the different size numbers and MM's associated, Its loaded with just about everything from the making of the dies to production presses and the history behind the scenes.. Its a lot of info for one subject...
Another I like can be found on the PCGS website
https://www.PCGS.com under books/silver dollars & Trade dollars of the US and that ones free!! you don't have to be a vammer to use the Encyclopedia its a great source,, I for one have bought toooo many books that regurgitate the same little info, after hundreds are spend I seem to have duplicate info from other sources
perhaps others know of other books that are more in depth than just the listings of coins and MM's and a few known varities....
Just my 2 Bits.. And welcome I seem to remember you recently joined..

Yes I am familiar with this monster dictionary. It's not quite what I am looking for right now, I'm in the market for a concise book to actually read. The Encyclopedia is kinda intimidating and would not be easy to get through. My goal is to READ a book on coins and I know that every book out there can't be a winner. I hope someone else can give me some info on the Red Book guide to Morgans.

But thanks for the reply and info
