Okay,

I wrote earlier that I purchase a proof American Buffalo 2006. I intended to leave it in the mint package unopened, since I also purchased a MS70 American Buffalo 2006.

Someone wrote I should take it out of the package and have it graded and sealed in air tight container.

Is the mint packaging bad and that it will damage the coin in the long run? I know that graded coins are nice to have but since I been collecting every coin or sets I receive from the mint, I leave in the package unopen. Because I believe it is expensive to get a coin graded. I could buy more coins for the price.

I would like others opinion on this? Because I may have to spend money and join PCGS collector club to get a coin graded. This is the single most expensive coin in my collection. I want to make sure it is treated that way.

Let me know.

1. Gold is an almost-inert metal; very little causes it to change its' appearance. There's no real need to seal it away from the atmosphere.

2. *Everybody* is getting their gold slabbed. There won't be any real price difference in the long term because of that. You'll increase your profit by an immediate $30 by not paying it to PCGS.

I remember someone saying in a previous post that they saw an article in Coin World that the mint is stating that the original packaging has PVC in it? Anyone else hear about this or can confirm?

Hey,

I found a partial article that was in CoinWorld on a website:

http://www.air-tites.com/coinworld.htm

Well, it look like only the uncirculated buffalo gold coins had pvc and not the proof coin.

thank you for the responses

I stopped by a local dealer today who is an old timer and asked his opinion on this very subject. He thinks since the packaging contains PVC that an airtite is probably the way to go.

Well I broke down an ordered an unc. gold buffalo from my dealer today. The only thing I will do is remove it from the PVC packaging and place it in an airtite when I pick it up next Saturday. Quite honestly I don't think the PVC will ever hurt the gold but I find storage in an airtite more to my liking.

Terry I'm surprised, I thought you'll be one of the first to buy them. You're been waiting for this issue.
