Well, that's what my first thought was when my eye caught a glimpse of it. Actually it turned out to be the monogram of Bala Rama Varma II, ruler of Travancore. The coin, 4 cash, was minted without a date between 1938 and 1949.
I like the looks of more primitive ones (unlike the one I posted here), especially one issued in 1900's. I think they bring the past and the present closer together. It's hard to explain the feeling I get, but it's similar to this: when you fly halfway around the Globe in just a few hours you realize that the size of our world is not as big as you had thought.
Yes they are even more impressive, but I like the fact that for one single country you find so different spellings and also different calendars. This one for instance has Latin and Hindu characters.
