Where is the half crown from (country) and what is it composition/weight? Maybe a grade please? This is my second time taking pics of coins so sorry if they are bad. Report this Post to the Staff

Composition is Copper-Nickel, 32.3 mm and in the neighborhood of 14 grams (maybe someone else has an exact weight.) MIntage 71,165,000 and as for grade... I am not good enough yet. It's valued in the 2009 Krause at between $0.25 (F) and $1.00 (XF.) I love Crowns & Half Crowns. Report this Post to the Staff

Nazarene Valued Member United States 128 Posts	Posted 07/18/2010 12:45 am Half Crowns were .9250 Silver until 1919 when the composition changed and they became .500 Silver in 1920. Silver was removed altogether beginning in 1947. The weight pre-1947 was 14.1380 grams. Still can't find a definitave (official source) weight post silver, but as far as I can tell the weight remained the same at 14.1380 grams. Someone please correct me if I am incorrect. Although crown pieces circulated, I suspect that they were relative rare in circulation, just as is the half dollar is scarce in circulation in the U.S. I am currently looking for a young head shield type. Other than that, the type set of British half crowns that I am building is complete from George 111 to current. I have an almost complete set of all the major types of shilling, going back to Henry V111, and that is also an absorbing and interesting series, well worth numismatic study.
