Hi guys,
I found this one in a group of other coins, with a holder marked "Islamic empire 900-1000 AD". I have not been able to confirm any of this by researching Islamic coins from around that period.
It is very small and weighs 0.5 grams. I am not sure which way is up, so please forgive me if it's pictured upside-down or sideways, etc.
Thank you kindly! =)

The top image resembles a rupee of Aurangazeb the Mughal(1658-1707AD),but the weight 0.5gms is totally unlikely for a rupee.Rupee weighs 10.6 to 11.6gms.

There wasn't an "Islamic Empire" in 900-1000 AD, and Arabic/Persian/Farsi script 1000 years ago looked different to this, so I think whoever wrote that on the 2x2 was just making things up. As you've probably determined from your researches, the 'Abbasid Caliphate was the closest thing there was to an "Islamic Empire" at the time, and their coins typically looked like this in 900-1000 AD.

Your coin certainly looks "Indian", and half a gram sounds about right for a 1/16th rupee. But fractional rupees were usually struck using the same dies as full rupees, so they typically look like this, with most of their design missing.

If this were a European coin, I'd probably say it was play money. But I've never heard of anyone making miniature replica Indian coins.

A pic of the other side might help. Your original pic's been over-written by a pic of some kind of clipped edge.

The top line of the legend very clearly reads "Aurangazeb Alamgir" in full and the date given is 1091.AH, which corresponds to the reign of the ruler (1068 to 1118.AH). But the flan is too large for a 0.5gm coin. And above all, Mughal coins of those times never had reeded edge.

As had happened with another post, I am not sure why this old post suddenly came up and with incorrect pictures from other old posts.

Some sort of technical bug is at work here.

You're using Photobucket to host the pics, so the problem is over there. I suspect the original pics on photobucket were moved or deleted and new ones with the same URL have replaced them.

Thanks Sap, I'll have to pay more attention to the exact links when I change something in PB.
