Beautiful coin! Do you collect any particular time frame or region of Germany? German coins are very numerous. Major part of 1600's and 1700's world catalogs is taken up by coins of German states. I have a few, as it is not my main concentration. But I'd love to get more of (Brunswick-...) Hanover coins with the Georges who crossed over to Britain.

Yes German coinage is so big and only in 19th century Krause catalog there are 140 pages.I am interested mainly in 1800-1914.And I am happy to found here some other collectors with the same interest.

I have been accumulating around 100 copper coins from various German States. I always liked the coins from the colonies. On the other hand I have never been attracted by the large silver coins. But currently all my collections are sleeping except for France and Luxembourg.

Quote: Anyone here who collect also coins from Germany? Sure. :) But I primarily collect coins from this country (Federal Republic of Germany), not so much the earlier stuff. Nice pieces you have though! Christian

Yeah I'm a German Collector too - MOSTLY Third Reich (as its my research area), but also Kaiserreich stuff like you. Alas, very few of my Kaiserreich Silver pieces looks as nice as yours (tho I do have some UNC (and one Proof) Third Reich coins)...

epop: no problem at all; feel free to post more. I actually recently acquired a proof 2003 'restrike' of the 1871 Seiges Thaler; only bought it because it was cheap and Silver (paid a bit over melt value)... If you're really into German stuff, forget about the Krause... Get your hands on the Jaeger Katalog - Die deutsche Münzen seit 1871 - Kurt Jaeger and Helmet Kahnt; the current edition is the 21st --> http://www.amazon.de/Die-deutschen-...p/3866465211 . If you're specifically interested in Kasierreich then, if I remember correctly (I'm at Uni, so cant glance over my shoulder and see my bookshelf :) there is Das Deutsches Kaiserreichmünzen - Thomas Schantl --> http://www.amazon.de/Das-Deutsche-K...p/3932769341 . And finally, the Volker Weege books are highly recommended; most relevant to you will be Münz Fälschungen 2: Deutsches Kaiserreich --> http://www.amazon.de/M%C3%BCnz-F%C3...p/3950226869 . And you're only interested in Kaiserreich or do you also collect later stuff? (Weimarer Republik, Drittes Reich, DDR/BRD, EURO)

Thanks for the references on German books I will add one in my collection. I appreciate if you can provide any information in English written German coin book. I am interested in German coins before 1918, that's my focus. But of course I have the Hindenburg 2 and 5 mark and the Potsdam church issues.

They are some fantastic coins you've got. The only type of coins I allow myself to collect other than just deal in are German coins - especially Kaiserreich and Weimar periods. The variety of designs is unrivalled by any other European country, and historically are often very interesting. Unfortunately the Weimar period peices tend to be comparitively expensive
