Hello,

I'm taking my infant foster son to his first coin show. This is a small show but does anyone have any suggestions? I know what I'm looking for so that is good.

Thanks,
Rich

I took my (now two year old) son once.

Some shows might discourage or downright forbid the use of a stroller. If you have never been to the show you are planning on attending, you may want to contact someone and ask about it.

I see strollers all the time at the show I regularly go to. They usually have very wide isles between the tables, making it less crowded and therefore easy to navigate. However, this may not be the case at your show; so even if they allow them, be prepared for this.

My son even scored some free coins; so whether or not he really enjoyed it, I hope one day he will appreciate it.

Usually the shows have give aways for kids, but one thing you should be aware of is that unless you provide some kind of "entertainment" for your son you won't be able to spend much time at the show. Kids, even 6 - 7 year-old, get bored there pretty fast and they're ready to move on. Even my older one, now 9, who's into coins, after a few acquisitions is very eager to leave to put his stash away.

Coinman1014 is 8, and he can last all day at a coin show--but I can't imagine taking a baby.

I think I am lucky. My son is usually very content to sit in his stroller and watch the people go by.

Really depends on the kid. My son when he was only 2 could sit forever anywhere. I used to wonder if he was still alive sometimes. Other kids at any age get really restless and if yours is like that, it could ruin the show for you. So much depends on the kid, his age, if a stroller is needed, still in diapers, gets loud, etc. I've been to coin shows where someone brought a kid of about 6 or 7 and they paid more attention to the coins than the parents. I've even seen about 10 year olds explaining to parents what some coins were.
Again, it all depends on the kid. Some are way more intelligent than a lot of grown ups I know.

I alternate bringing my 5 year old and 7 year old to coin shows. Sellers are always giving them freebies and cutting them outragous deals. The kids door prizes are good too because not many kids show up. One time my son won by being the only kid at the show. Several other times he was one of just a handful of kids in the drawing.
