Those are nicks, dimes and quarters. (He has .05, .10 and .25 at the end of the numbers. Took me a while to find, too!)
These are quite common, as they were issued during Korea and a lot of veterans brought them back. Interestingly, there are however, 4 different issues and versions of these, and that would depend on the location of theblock numbers.
