Just wondering if anyone has seen a penny like this. I thought it was a dime, same color as a dime but it is a penny. Coin collecting is all new to me, so if anyone could help it would be appreciated :). I tried to take a pic but not having much luck with that...just getting a glare back.

thanks

Sounds like you are using a flash? Don't.
Maybe try to get a light source on a slight angle.

I have seen several cents (2007 and 2008)like you are describing (some with a hint of pink)

The Canadian 1 cent coin for this year should weigh 2.35 grams, Canadian 10 cent coin for this year should weigh 1.75 grams if you have a scale this would help with out picture's.

I too have seen several one cent coins (2007-2008) That have a pinkish hint to them, but you said this one is silver.
I have never seen a 2007-2008 silver penny.

rather than uploading a pic to the forum, host it at imageshack so you can post a much larger image for us :)

I'm sorry, the pics are still pretty bad, it's hard to tell. But we're a patient bunch.
I would say to keep the coin.

Don't throw it into a wishing well. It looks like it may have been stamped on a dime planchet. That's a fairly rare error, and can be worth a lot more than a penny if that is in fact what happened. Besides, it only cost you a penny to keep :)

Perhaps someone else on the board can offer a general opinion on the value. But my guess would be in the high-two-digits or low-three-digits.

Perhaps someone electroplated your penny. You can turn a penny 'silver' with common household items.

Alternatively, I am not sure about the 2007 penny but some cents are plated as a final step at the mint. Perhaps yours missed this step.
