My 4 Year Old Found A Car

My son is coming up on 4 years old and I'm realllly trying to get him interested in the stuff I like. History, coins, metal detecting etc.

A few weeks ago I threw a handful of change out in the backyard so he could look for "treasure". He had a great time playing with the detector. Now, a couple days ago we took it in the woods behind our house that I take him on nature walks. I saw a piece of rusted metal on one of the trails I cut so I thought we could go look for more stuff.

Well....we found a car. That is, we have begun finding car pieces. Unidentified metal parts, a part of a door frame, some window glass. Nothing really that can be identified yet but I am anxious to go out there myself and see what else I can dig up. I don't know if we will find a frame in the ground or anything, but the amount of car junk is piling up.

He had a good time and so did I.

Nice! So are you gonna buy him a beginners detector in a couple of more years? Maybe you should go get him a Wal-mart cheapo one right now so he will not have to watch you. Who knows he might just find a a buried jar of old coin.

Do they sell small ones that a four year old can easily handle? I think it's a great idea, but something my wife might shake her head at. It's perfect!

We already found what I believe to be a Native American turtle shell out in the woods. It is really old looking and has two perfectly aligned holes drilled in the end of it. Maybe there is a jar of Morgans or Gold eagles buried out there!

i do know radio shack has junior detectors for around $50.00-60.00 , light weight. adjustable length... for a small child, I think it would be great

I have to! I was deployed for 13 months just getting back the end of April. I've got a lot of catching up to do!
