Clearly there is a Charles in Charge. Anyone know which one? The reverse is slick.

Looks like (GWEL)MUS to me. So it must be William III (without Mary), 1695 - 1701.

But, another look at the hair, I'd go with Scott Baio theory!

By the way, when the next time a (British) monarch is in question you can narrow the field down (actually cut it in half) using the fact that they alternated their profiles, facing left or right, starting at about Elizabeth I; for sure for all milled coins.
Rest in Peace

Ahhh ... I didn't know that, svslav.

Between this thread and the Latin thread, I've learned a lot here tonight. Good for keeping Alzheimer's at bay.

Is that the mintmark below the bust? Looks like a V, but according to my Coincraft book and my Krause, V was not a possible mintmark. Is that a Y for York? I would love that since I've lived in York, PA, I've visited York, UK, and lived in New York.

Interestingly, out of five provincial mints only York's mintmark was a small (lowercase) letter. To me it looks more like what's left of a capital N for the Norwich mint (which was in operation from Sept. 1696 to Apr. 1698).
Kinda like this one (I tried to find an example with "y" mintmark but wasn't successful)

This coin is really really ugly, but that one spot is really quite clear. Absolutely not an N. Definitely looks like a V. According to my Krause, KM485.6 has a script Y mintmark, KM485.7 has just a Y. The Krause says the script Y (KM485.6) is York, but does not say where the regular Y (KM485.7) was minted.

My Krause says York for KM 485.7
So, looks like you got your wish.
