Hey all,
My mother in law gave me her "collection" of US pennies. I have:
1928 1929 1935 1939 1940 X 2 1941 1941 1944 1945 X 2 1946 1947 s 1948 D 1948 1949 1951 1953 D 1955 D 1955 1956 D 1959 D 1959 1960 D 1960 1961 1961 D 1962 D 1962 1963 1964 D 1964 X 2 1965 1966 1967 1968 D 1968 X 2 1969 D 1970 1970 D 1971 D 1971 1972 D 1972 1973 D 1973 1974 D 1974 1975 1976 1976 D 1977 1978 D 1978 1979 1980 1981 1982 X 2 1983 1984 1985 1988 1989 1991 2000
Few..ok, that's a heckuva lot of typing LOL. Few questions. The coins are in a "Offical Whitman Coin Folder" which is blue (and you just push the coins in and out of slots. I know it says "official" like it's important, but the cardboard blue doesn't seem right to me. Also, are there any coins in there worth anything? I checked for double dates, nada. The only thing for one of them is the 1949. The "4" looks completely filled up. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks, Susan

Wow,looks like you got a great start. Are you thinking of finishing up the empty spots?I think the ones that are going to be of great value are under 1928.There are lotsa folks here who can help you.I don't know about the 4.I have a couple of pennies myself that have the bottom half of the B in liberty filled up,and one with the R.Good luck to ya,and welcome to the forum. What do you collect?sn31 :)

Welcome to the forum!
There's nothing too spectacular in the list. DD's for 1955 and maybe some large and small dates to look for in 1960 and 1982. Filled die errors, most times, don't bring a very large premium but, there are error collectors out there. The Whitman books are blue. Nothing really "official" except that they are "officially Whitman" folders. If you keep them you can always start collecting and go backward from 1928. You can get most of them circulated pretty regularly. There may be some tricky key dates and low mintages but, the others are still available. Let us know what you're planning on doing and what you collect. Again, welcome to our wonderful Coin Community Family.

Thanks sn31 and dsking. Yeah, I am going to try to fill those spots up (but I think getting a 1943 penny will be a thing LOL). As far as what I collect, I just started 4 days ago LOL I started with error coins. :)

Thanks! I am sooooo confused in reference to "double die". I've seen some pictures and I'm going...WHAT? Where?! LOL Honestly, unless it's an obvious double die, I think I would totally miss it.. :(

Hi suvoth
That is alot of typing !!
for the cents you have listed ,, most of the value would be in the very high grade and Error/ Varieties.
Its cool that your going to go ahead and complete the set, By the way the 1943 coins listed in the whitman folder do not include the copper variety, but are the three Steel cents and they are easily found.
If I can be of any Help let me know, I will do what Ican !!
Welcome to the forum !!
Rick

Thanks Rick :) Maybe you can help me out..I read somewhere about the 1984 "ear" doubling. I have a 1983 Penny and the ear does look like it sticks out more...but how can I tell for sure? I can't seem to spot "double dies" :(

Its The 1984 that has ear doubling, and the reverse on the bottom of 1983 could have doubling on the word one cent, als 1997 has a second ear error th 1972 has a double face image, and 1998 to 2000 there are close and far variteies(or The A an M in america)If they touch they were struck with dies to produce mint staet coins if they are seperate they used proof dies on those paticular years and of course th big on 1955/55 you will notice it If you have one . There are earlier and later die states to that error which show some sort of doubling Called the poor mans Double Die. alos I think uptill 198o's ish They hand punched the mintmarks on the coinns so you can find many errors there S/s S/D sideways mint mark upside down etc.. (For example 1956 D/D Denver/ Denver) Good luck In your collecting And I hope I will be seeing you on the forum for some time . enjoy and welcome

Hi suvoth The 84 doubled ear is most easily seen on the lobe, the second image is easy to see, the 83 Lincoln is a reverse Doubled Die and affects the lettering it is also easy to spot if you have one there will be little doubt. Try this page for a little more info on errors . http://koinpro.tripod.com/ErrorVarietyList.htmRick

Thanks TSOTL. I have that linked bookmarked, and that is obvious DD'ing to me :) But I was looking at "member pictures" and they had some posted there I just couldn't see. After I saw them...well, I really wondered what I was missing! LOL Here is an example: http://www.coincommunity.org/galler...&cat=0&pos=6
