I am getting ready to sort through several thousand wheat cents. My plan is to use a baseball sorting box which has 10 seperate compartments which will allow me to seperate by decades, then I can seperate by year, mm, etc. Just wondering what anyone else uses. Thanks!

They have all kinds of inexpensive, clear, multi-compartment, plastic containers (with attached snap lids.in the craft section at Wal-mart. I have a 20 compartment one I picked up to keep some of my dark side coins sorted until I can do something meaningful with them. It was only $2 or $3 dollars. It wouldn't handle the volume you are talikng about, but when you get down to the decade stage it might. Say this one is the "S" mint box and with 20 compatrments, it could handle 2 decades. I don't know... just an idea. They have all kinds of them, not just 20 compartment.

I use plastic small parts bins. I think I got them at home depot. they come with a rack to hang them on the wall, or they stack When not in use, they slide together to take up less space. I mark the fronts with numbers 0-9 and stack them when sorting. it allows for more workspace

I use two of these side by side. It holds three decades and then has four extra spots that I use for older dates or foreign money.

http://img413.imageshack.us/img413/...img0674m.jpgthis is specifically for my wheat sorting. you get 3 rows 10 across for each decade to cover P, D and S for every year. Certain year/MM are uncommon enough that when I find one, I 2x2 it. as you look at the pic it goes 20s 30s 40s 50s

I use dixie cups. I need to be able to pick up individual containers to pour them out.

Note that stacking, piling, etc of those coins is creating a scratching situation. If any of those coins turn out to be valuable, there goes that value down, down, down. Lots of out of work people. Why not just go out and hire a few hundred to count and separate your coins?

I have my set in 20 pocket pages. I take them out of the binder and lay them out flat on the table in order. Then each date and mint mark is right where it is supposed to be. My extra coins are usually already in 2x2's so I just stack them on top of the appropriate date and mintmark spot. When I am done, I make sure that my best coin is still in the set and my 2x2's go into the extras 2x2 boxes in order.
