Hello...
I like to buy coins at shows but lately have thought if I could find some super-reputable online dealer then that would be good for in-between the show times! I am worried to buy on E-Bay (although I think feedback can be a way to find a good dealer). Can anyone make recommendations for either website dealer or a known superb E-Bay dealer.
Thank you all.

A better idea would be to research and learn more about authenticating and grading, so that way it doesn't matter who you buy from, and you'll be safe. It also depends on your needs and wants.

Agreed!... I just ordered "The Official Guide to Coin Grading and Counterfeit Detection, 2nd Edition." Do you recommend any other books or sites (for beginners)?

Once you do find a couple of them, I would imagine that your next thread will be titled "How to avoid spam from an online dealer"

Here's a nice link. There are definitely fakes that will pass these tests but it's a pretty informative article.

What you're buying will depend on what sites we suggest. If you're looking for Indian cents, I can give you half a dozen sites. If you're interested in Seated Liberty quarters, I'd just scratch my head.

I actually still use an old time dealer that sends out mailing lists (mostly foreign). I've been ordering from him since 1996 I think, before marriage and kids for sure! He has the greatest stuff, I've aways wondered where he gets it all. He had a 49c portion of his catalog when I started, then it was 59c, briefly 69c, briefly 79c, and 89c for quite a few years. I'm guessing it will be the 99c stuff soon. I've filled in a lot of foreign sets this way.

I do have a few nice Indian cents from shows and may like to add some more so if you have suggestions for that then that would be appreciated too :) I am looking for inexpensive raw coins -- price range is say $1 up to $50 range.

I think the most reputable dealers are the ones that have been in business for many years or even decades. Such dealers are very well known in the industry. Just review a few coin magazines, borrow some if you can, and review the advertising, as well as what they have for sale. The best established dealers have an excellent reputation that has taken many years to build and they will protect that reputation vigorously with a very strong sense of honest dealing. Then have a look at the website of those dealers.

I recommended an online site I thought the original poster would find useful, but it got deleted from here and moved to another forum. Sorry admins, I thought Drain was actually interested in this information.
