I am looking to get rid of my extras, there is nothing amazing in my collection, but over the past couple of years, I bought some extra stuff. I am wondering what your thoughts are for the best place to get rid of uncirculated and proof modern coins. I am not looking for the biggest bang for the buck (and not looking toget completely ripped off either), but just an easy way to get rid of moderns, the more at a time - the better.

To give you a better idea, here is my inventory (a work in progress):

DOLLARS
Ikes: (2) 1976S proof clad
SBA: 1979 P uncirculate

HALVES
Franklins: 1960-1964 proof coins (one for each year)
JFKs: 1968 S Proof; 1969 D; (2) 1969 proofs; 1970 D; 1979 S Proof; 2004 S Proof silver; 2006 S Proof clad.

QUARTERS
Washington: (2) 1962 proofs; 1964 Proof; (3) 1976 silver Proofs; 1977 proof; 2000 Maryland Clad; 2000 Mass. clad; 2004 Iowa silver proof; 2005 California Silver proof; 2005 Minn. silver proof; 2007 Utah clad; and all 2008 states qtrs in the plastic casing from the mint.

DIMES
1960 S Proof; the following clad proofs: 1975, 1976, 1977, 1979, 1997, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008.

NICKELS
2006, 2007 and 2008 proofs

CENTS
2006, 2007 and 2008 proofs.

As you can tell, nothing stellar (and even some of the coins, although proofs or uncirculated are not the greatest). And I would prefer to get rid of stuff in lots. Where would you recommend: this forum, e-bay, perhaps just going to the local dealer and working something out, someplace else?

If marketing on e-bay or a forum like this, would you market them together, small sets, or individually?

I ebay has your best chance at highest return, but lowest as well. Easily set time table.

Here will likely give you pretty close to what it's worth. Might take up to a week but could be minutes.

A dealer will give you about 15% less than that but the sale is garunteed and is quick.

And I would say broken up into lots by denomination would be best.

If you go to your local dealer you may be able to work out a trade, in which case you may receive more for your coins than if the dealer had to pay out cash.

The problem with modern proofs is that there are so many of them. Proof sets are prevalent and a lot of folks are busting out the coins to build sets. These leave a lot of inventory available. Selling your pieces individually would generate lots of work with I suspect little return. Best bet is to sell in lots or groups. Also concur that you may find someone to swap with. Everyone has extra stuff lying around. Trading is a great way to get rid of some of it. Sincerely, John Leckrone
