A few weeks ago, I got my first 4 boxes of Kennedy halves and quickly searched them for silver. I did this by only looking at the edge of the rolls. My daughter and I found maybe 7 silver 40%. I then asked here on the forum if anyone actually checks every coin. Many of you do so I went back and checked every coin. The results were okay. We only found one more silver. I also pulled out about 15 that were AU/MS. My last find almost gave me a heart attack. One of you guys mentioned that we should always check both sides for die rotation. So the other night I was doing just that and I found the find of all finds. I'm screaming, "oh my God! I don't believe it! My daughters run into the room wanting to know what all the excitement was about. And that was when I revealed the most unbelievable half dollar I had ever seen. They had stamped the reverse on both sides!! I had no idea what this was. I just knew I was going to be rich! I'm screaming and looking for my scale. I wish someone had videoed it. I had heard about the dime in the penny trick but had never heard of this one. I wasn't until I weighed it that I realized something wasn't right. Got my glass out and it was only then that I would see that the edge wasn't right. Putting that coin into circulation is just so wrong! Another lesson learned at my expense!! Live and learn right

Ah yes, the double sided coin. At least you had a "thrill" for a little while dreaming of how you could spend all that money... I always check the coins for condition as well. You can find some fabulous half dollars in circulation if you look. These are heavy coins and damage easily so when you find them with little or no wear or damage they are well worth keeping. Best wishes on your continued searching! Sincerely, John Leckrone

never be fooled by those magician coins, they can NEVER happen in the mint, unless, someone makes an impossible screw-up

Undamaged ones are actually worth more than .50 cents. I keep all the magician coins I can find. Think I have found 3 this year so far. One day they will make a good conversation piece for the kids.

Funny story John, FYI, the dies are made in such a way as to prevent two reverse or two obverse from being placed in the press. So unless someone modifies them it can not happen.

Before someone beats me to it, we need pics! That sounds like a mule, no? Perhaps one of our prestiged members can write an article about this impossibility. Seems that the article section has been stale for a while.

I've found 4-5 and what I don't get is mine always have the proper reverse in them. Never found a two headed one. One was a beautiful AU/MS 90's obverse with a F reverse from the 70's. That one stood out!

In all the years I have been roll searching half dollars I have never came up with a Magicians coin. That is ok just as long as I continue to find an occassional silver half dollar.... Sincerely, John Leckrone
