so if you see this item: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...TRK:MEWNX:ITWhat would you expect to receive? I was hoping for the one in the photo (Yellowstone), but was willing to take the one in the text (Yosemite) at that price. So it arrives today and it's Yosemite and the slab is damaged It's a PCGS slab, and the raised lip that goes around the bottom of the slab has a chunk cracked out of it. So the slab is still sealed, but the lip is cracked (and since the broken part is not in the envelope, I believe it was broken before it was shipped). What would you do with this shipment if you had just received it?

I would keep it and think of it as a $9 lesson to always confirm with the seller as to what you'll receive. As long as the coin's intact I would keep it.
All IMO.

I would think, that if you contacted the seller, explained the condition of the slab, possibly with photo, that the seller would offer to send you a replacement. I doubt that the seller would expect you to return the coin.
You've already got $9.00 invested in this one, so return postage would put it over $10.
I would make no demands of the seller at this point. Let him / her choose the the right thing to do.
If the seller does not choose the right thing to do, you could file a dispute, and paypal will refund to you the cost of the item only ($6.00). You will be out the $3.00 postage, and you will be required to return the coin, so this thing is going to end up costing you either way you look at it unless the seller is of good character.

It's a tough one to me... I don't really mind keeping it, don't know if I could/should expect anything from the seller. Wasn't sure if the cracked case was a big deal... from the responses so far, it sounds like it's no big thing.
Heard back from the seller... he said, "send it back, the coin offered was the coin in the title"
I believe the # is whited out because he seems to use the same photo to list the same type of coin multiple times (though usually the photo actually matches the item... unlike this time). He made this same mistake on this listing a few other times, and I did contact him about it before I bought. I said I guessed he was trying to sell the coin in the photo and the title was wrong, but I never heard back from him.
I dunno. I'm leaning toward keeping the coin and not leaving any feedback for the seller.

Metalman....yea, no brainer there. The picture and description do not match and the slab is broken.

i don't agree with not leaving feedback - item doesn't match the picture, AND a broken slab! the guy's selling something thats not represented by the picture- isn't part of ebay's policy now - no stock photos? i don't like to leave negative feedback on ebay, but as blatant as this one is, I would in a minute Quote: In addition, listings for certified coins must include an image of the item, showing the coin in its graded holder. The image needs to be clear and the grading company, grade, and certification number should easily be readable.

Quote:Actually ebay covers the original shipping in a dispute such as this. That is excellent information Metalman. I was unaware of that, but as far as ebay goes, I am an onlooker, not a user. The slab could have been broken in shipment possibly? Either way, it is the seller's responsibility to get it to you safely.

I would file a dispute if I were you. Between eba and paypal, you are covered. Now if were me...I would request the personal information (phone # billing address ans such) Then I would go knock on his door. As I only live 18 miles from where he is, and frequent that area quite often...Well you get the drift.
Also, if you look at his feedback, you can see that he has been notorious for switching coins on people.

Don't neg the guy until you give him a chance to make amends. Mistakes happen. He should pay the return postage though, and I wouldn't send it back until he agrees to do so.
