I picked this up quite a while ago in a bulk purchase of Roosies, paid $.75 apiece. I didn't know much about Roosevelt dimes; I was just buying them for the silver. I looked through them recently and realized that I have a "key" date. I don't know much about grading them. I would appreciate any help you could give me.

To my unpracticed eye, it either looks worn around the outside of the obverse, or it was struck with a worn die/LDS. The reverse has a gray substance around the outside, something that looks like artist's clay.

And if you're into toning, it has a light champagne tone starting to show up on the bust.

As you noted, nearly all pre-1965 Roosevelt dimes are traded as silver bullion. Checking this date reveals it must be in AU condition or better to warrant much of a premium over melt value.

That said, I don't see this coin as worth more than $2 or $3. It's condition is close to AU but more likely EF40 to 45.
