I have posted on this forum how paypal took money from my account almost two months after a transaction took place stating I was a victim of fraud.

I pursued the matter with the Commonwealth Banking Ombudsman. Yesterday Paypal in their wisdom refunded the money owed to me. This was based on initial letters from the ombudsman to paypal.

In short paypal refunded the money to me before an investigation could take place so the view of the ombudsman is the case is resolved and now closed. This is smart of paypal because if the investigation took place they may have found they breached the law by doing what they did. So to avoid an investigation was the smart thing to do!!!!

Even though I have had a win of sorts it still does not stop paypal doing what they did to me in the future. In short...if paypal rip you off take it to the relevant authority in your country as if there is enough complaints paypal will be forced to stop what they are doing...ie rip people off.
Rest in Peace

Shane, congratulations on your victory, belated as it is. At least you were able to get someone to side with you that had enough clout to pull it off. Far too often, big businesses such as PayPal just shrug off complaints or their mistreatment of customers and leave them swinging in the wind. As you mentioned, it didn't force PayPal to change their way of doing business: they can still shaft the little guy without fear of reprisal.

Shane,

I'm happy a satisfactory resolution was reached. It is sad that it took so long. As a positive, it has brought out and highlighted the potential dangers in using paypal and I'm sure both buyers and dealers on these boards alike are wiser for that.
