Some collectors prefer to buy lots and then they sell all the stuff away what they don't like or collect. When they act this way they can earn some extra money or just get the keepers for free. So collecting coins this way is quite cheap or even profitable.

Others can make this kind of deals occasionally, but usually they pay what market or book price says. So, do you make usually profit or just pay the book price?

Personally, I pay lots of coins over book prices (though in penny class only ), because very few seller wants to sell his worn world coin for €0,05 or €0,10. Krause would give a value €0,20 for UNC coin but you have to pay twice as much for a worn one if you really want it In other cases, I try to get my coins at a market price or a little below if possible.

I tend to pick up my coins one at a time...I usually know what I want and I wait till I can get the grade I want so I usally pay close to book....now and again though I do get a good find for close to face

I just snagged up a set of 46-64 silver rosies for melt (or very close there too)
Condition was great (not all MS though).
I figured price of melt for the set was worth the price of the 47,48,49 pieces alone.

I always like to by lots as well...the more you buy, the cheaper it gets so to speak.
I once bought an entire collection for just one piece (trains, not coins though) by the time all was said and done, I got the piece I wanted for nothing, doubled my money, and still had half the collection left.
You tend to catch people off guard when you ask what do you want for all of it.

Yet again...If I see a coin that fills a spot in my collection, I go for it (if the price is right)

My wife says I'm indecisive...I'm not sure what she means

I like buying coins in bulk. You can cherry pick the collection and then sell off the items you do not need. Having said that I will also look at bargain bins and will cherry pick nice coins from those as well. You all know the saying, knowledge is power. I don't want to pay retail for anything unless I REALLY need it badly. The good news is I usually never have to!! Sincerely, John Leckrone

DarkSide coin hunting is a bit tricky, especially in a numismatic-unfriendly country such as Kuwait (which I will be leaving in a month to UK for university)

If you see something you like, or would make part of your collection, you buy it, BUT a general knowledge is required so you don't get ripped off massively.
There are many dealers that feed off lack of knowledge and ignorance.
