It obviously costs a lot of money to make a little bar of gold!
$40 for $2.73 worth of gold (437.5 grains/troy ounce at $1196.00 spot) seems juuuuuust a bit excessive. That actually puts you in the lofty sphere of $17,500 and ounce! King Farouk just rolled over in his grave.
Better yet, at the bottom of the listing in the Most Watched category you can snatch a 5 grain bar of 24K gold for the same $40 pricetag. That nets you $13.65 worth of gold for two double sawbucks, or a mere $3500 an ounce.
If it were me, I'd just pawn a few things and buy a whole ounce much closer to melt, but I'm weird that way.

You gotta be kidding! Where do you guys find this stuff? Oh that's right, ebay is such a reputable site. You know....I've only been stung twice there but I got my money back....but...stuff like this is.......Just can't find the words!  |

as with everything it is definitely buyer beware....and some one will buy them. Makes me want to shave some gold off a coin though...can you just see the coin I could buy after awhile  |

One grain of Au is infinitesimal compared to that little ingot. I'd be surprised if there is even 1 Grain of gold in that lump of yellow metal. It's fraud! Plain a simple, and some believe it OK to put a price on it!
You're right guppie, Caveat Emptor. Even with some on the forum.

I noticed you're too tough to answer my question though. Do you really want ebay to limit what sellers are allowed to ask for things?If ebay killed one of your auctions because they said it was overpriced you'd have a hissy fit and scream about your rights. The guy is asking for a price way over market value..... hardly ebay's fault, problem, responsibility, or reflection of reputation. I just posted it for a laugh is all and you turn it into ebay bashing. |

Not me, I'd re-evaluate. I've only sold about 20 coins on ebay and they all went for more than reserve. They told me I was charging too much of postage and they were right, I adjusted. My problem with ebay is the problem you surfaced. Fraud, and they don't have a quality control for the posts nor do they care unless someone complains. That's the rub! |

Fraud? Yet another one that throws that word around and hasn't a clue what it means. If you expect me to believe you wouldn't care if ebay told you that you have to lower the price of your coins you're nuttier than I am. You're just backpedaling now and looking pretty silly. |

I have to agree with scubu. You getting burned and blasting it on ebay instead of doing the necessary research to not get a bad deal is kinda off IMO. My experience with ebay has been good, and I have no complaints with the site or the company. Most newer collectors seemed to get ripped off there and believe it is all ebay's fault. |

Current spot melt for 4 grains of 24K is $10.00
What did he use to take those pics ? A microscope !
I never saw a 1 grain gold bar before. I wonder if he/she
messed up and they are 1 gram bars. Even so, if you look below
it states 1 grain bar for sale then it says lot of 4.
1 gram comes out to $40.00
I bet they are 1 gram bars and that is what you get for $40.00
1 bar. So all in all if that is correct, not a bad price for it.

Guess I was wrong. It does show 1 grain on the bar.
You would need all 4 just to fill a cavity in a tooth.
