It is much shinier then the picture shows and is uncirculated but does have a bag mark on the cheek. There is a hugh difference in the Red Book pricing from MS-64 and MS-65 on this coin and their grading description doesn't really tell you much to look for for the differences in the coin.

I am assuming with the bag mark on the cheek it would keep it from being an MS-65?

Here is another one. a 1879cc. The grading with a value for these silver dollars in the Red Book begines with VF-20. I don't know if this coin meets those standards or not.

The numismedia is also a fairly reliable price guide. It is an online price guide. You can google it, since I dont think I'm allowed to post the link.

It usually gives values lower than the RedBook, but imho they are closer to market values. They also gives values for Morgan dollars all the way down to a G-4.

You 1879CC is not VF, but I think it's a strong VG/F. The rim bump hurts the value some, but the surfaces look really good. VG is valued at $150, so I'd say it should bring over $100 which is well above melt.

Your CC looks VG10 to me which puts the value around $130.

Even as this is a more common CC mint, this coin is not affected by the price of Silver. It is a collectible coin whose value is reflected more by the economic trend than anything else. As an example, the price of Silver has risen since 2007, but the Black Book from that year still shows it worth $100 F grade.

It looks like my previous question got over looked when I posted the pictures of the new coin.

It is much shinier then the picture shows and is uncirculated but does have a bag mark on the cheek. There is a hugh difference in the Red Book pricing from MS-64 and MS-65 on this coin and their grading description doesn't really tell you much to look for for the differences in the coin.

The mark looks significant, and could very well keep it from MS65. If the mark is bad enough, it could even be considered damaged. The scans are not good enough for anyone to use for grading the coin.

By the way, you don't need a high dollar camera to take good pictures of coins. But it does take some practice and experimentation.

My pictures are from my scanner. I have been experimenting as you can see with a black background and I will re-scan the 1884 to see if that helps with the black background.

The marks on the cheek are definately a bag mark likely from when another coin came off the line and dropped into the bag on top of this coin as the dots line up with a rim ridge edge.
