I have an 1884 with no mint mark. It appears to be in uncirculated condion with a couple of bag marks to me as a novice.

The only thing I find in the Red Book for this date is some crazy high auction prices for an 1884(b)

In looking around this forum just briefly I see a post for an 1884 O.

Do I have a very rare coin here or is it a repo?

This forum speaks a completely different language to me from reading a few of the post about this date.

These pictures are exactly how they came off my scanner and into my simple Adobe photo program there are light but not manipulated.

I agree with Adam. Your coin is genuine, but very common.

What you are looking at in your RedBook is the 1884 Trade Dollar which is a very rare coin. Right year, but wrong type.

Your coin is a Morgan Dollar(turn to the next page). You will see that 14 million were made and gives a value of $40 in MS-60.

I guess I should have flipped a few pages further as I stopped in the silver dollar section with the first page with the 1884 date. I see now that this must be an intro in the section for rare items and it has mine a couple of pages further. I am new to this book.
Rest in Peace

No worries Daryl. That's what we are all here for! That is a pretty good picture for your first time around, and a nice looking coin! Hopefully you will continue to post photos, we all love looking at them.
Rest in Peace

Please post a photo of the 1938-D Walking Liberty half that you mentioned earlier. That is a key date, and is going to have a lot of value over melt regardless of the grade. XF/AU means that it is stronger than an XF coin but weaker than AU, so the value(if graded correctly and problem free) would like somewhere in between those 2 grades.

Nice looking coin, there is some kind of mark on the cheek but otherwise the coin looks to be MS-63.

Please don't send any to the melting pot. Just put the junk silver together and ask 12-13x face value or so on ebay or bring to a dealer. I also imagine that the mods will edit out your email address. That shouldn't be posted to the public.

Don't expect to get more money from a smelter for your junk silver. It costs them money to refine it and resell it.

You'll get more for it just selling it like it is, as junk silver, to folks that like to buy it (coin dealers, collectors, ebay, whatever).

my Two Cents: If by "they" you mean the Chinese, then yes, "they" do. But yours looks great!

Anybody care to throw out a grade and value of this coin based on the picture I have posted?
