How strongly is it attracted to the magnet and is it attracted equally all over the coin? There is a magic trick that uses a magnet and an altered coin that has had a piece of steel inserted into it from the edge. (Item containing a concealed magnet is placed over the coin and then when it is lifted the coin has "vanished".)

Most counterfit quarters are dated 1982 and have no reeding on the edges, there are occasional off metal errors and sometimes normal planchets get contaminated with enough iron to become slightly magnetic. I think we would need pictures to get a good diagnosis.

You may want to check your area for a magic equipment shop or try magians supply places on line. Yes there are many faked coins made for this purpose. Since there is such a store in my area I went there once and purchased an assortment of magic type coins. Now looking at them, one is a manetic Quarter but only half. It is hollowed out so a Nickel can fit into the other side. I've got a Cent like that also. Appears they are ment to harbor one size smaller coin and vanish by the use of a magnetic ring on your finger, which I also purchased there.
