Amongst many lincoln cents that I have. I found one which seems very highly polished and a much higher relief than the others It is a 1968d.

I am attaching a couple of pictures althogh the high polish look does not come out too well. I am also posting a 1964d photo taken at the same time for comparison

the 1968 seems to be of a different metal

It looks to me like it was polished and then artificially toned using a darkener. The darkener was rubbed off of the high points of the coin to get the effect.

That's my guess anyway.

Thank you.

That is a shame if it was artificially polished but anyway it has given a very nice effect.

I agree it's a neat effect. It makes it less valuable from a coin collecting perspective but it is interesting as a "art" piece.

I have one just like it. I keep it in a 2x2 just because I think it looks cool. It's not worth anything really but it's fun to look at time again as a reference.

Lots of those floating around. At flea markets I've seen auto polishing deals that were being demonstrated using pennies. Makes them look like a proof. After the demonstration, they usually just give it to a kid.
