Private medal marking the Bicentennial, probably minted sometime between 1974 and 1976 and it was struck at the Franklin mint (Franklin mint mintmark at the bottom of the reverse.)

Worth depends on the weight and what it's made of. Franklin mint pieces of precious metal are usually marked on the edge with fineness and sometimes the weight. If the weight isn't marked you'll have to weigh it and make allowances for the holder. If it isn't marked with material or fineness then it may be a plated base metal piece and a specific gravity test would have to be done.

I looked at it again and found writing on the side. It says 24K gold electroplate on sterling on the edge of the coin. Does this mean sterling silver center? Any idea of worth? Thanks so much for your help!

I found this http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...370393062683 It's not gold electro-plated, but it appears to be the same coin for Pennsylvania, just in sterling silver. The whole set went for just under $100 a few months ago.

I'd say it was worth a small fraction above melt.

Yes it's is sterling silver with a very thin gold plating on it. As to value you need to get the weight in troy oz, multiply that by .925 and then multiply that by the spot price of silver. If you go to sell it I would expect about 10% or so back of the melt value.
