What's with this: http://koinpro.tripod.com/Articles/...1cOffers.htmSo the one's with the A and M close together are the rare ones? Anyone read a lot about this? I mean, it's gotta be the other way around right? I have 3 2000 pennies that all look like they have the A & M close together. Is it only the 1999 S variety?

if I am not mistaken (and I very well may be because I do not know much about cents) its the Wide AM that is worth the most money

That would make much more sense. I had to get clarification because to me, that webby was saying the exact opposite LOL

Hi suvoth Interestingly enough, there are dates where either is an error !! the Wide AM is actually a Proof reverse some of the cents of the years 1998-P 1999-P and 2000-P were mistakenly struck with a proof reverse die,, some of The proof cents 1998-S 1999-S were mistakenly struck with a business cent Die which is a Close AM die. the mint state coins of those years are also affected with the same varieties- like metalman said w/ the year 1998-2000. and dont forget the double ear 1997 - not suppose to happen w/ the single squezze method.

ok, so look out for 98,99 and 00 "P" wide and 98 and 99 "S" close variety. Thanks! In reference to that "double ear" thingy scoutjim...I don't know how on earth a normal person is suppose to see that! LOL I have a magnifying glass and I don't think I'd be able to tell the difference. :) Ah well, I guess I will just have to scan every 97 penny :D

Geez Suvoth, you're really getting into those varieties aren't you? Good luck with those, my eyes are too bad for that kind of thing. heheh I dunno if you've got this addy or not but this guy is like the high guru of cent varieties: http://coppercoins.com/He also sells them here: http://www.lincolncent.com/He's written a book on the subject that is supposed to be pretty good and although he doesn't have pics of all the coins he sells he seems to describe them pretty accurately and the prices aren't bad. Shipping is low compared to a lot of places. I bought a few from him a couple of weeks ago just to see how it would go and I was fairly happy with the order. I dunno how easy it is to find cents where you are but it might just be the thing for a Lincoln Cent variety collector from outside the states.

Ok, I just need a little more help LOL for those dates, I don't show a P or S. Does that make them a default to one or the other?

Hi suvoth
The lack of a mint mark on the cents is a P mint (Philadephia)
S (San Francisco) after 1974 on the Cents is only on Proof coins
