Hi all still quite new to this forum. I have a few questions: first of all, are PMs and emails the same here? If not, how do you do them (both)? Also, can anyone list all of the benefits one receives once they reach 50/100/250 posts? I found a few in certain places but none in one location. Also, to be able to email (which I think is done by going to a member's profile and selecting 'Click here to send an e-mail') do you need 50 posts? Again, how about a PM? Or is there any other way to contact someone privately? Would appreciate any help. Thanks

list:

once you reach 50 posts you can BUY or RESPOND to a trade

you can also register for the general discussion (non-coin related forum)

once you reach 250 posts you can up up an auction, sell something, or offer something for trade.

and yes, you need at least 50 posts to PM/ email (same thing) another person.

Some forums have "private message" systems in place. These PM systems are not quite as "private" as the name implies, because the moderators and admins of those forums can read them. This forum's owner-administrators had problems with this when they were members on another forum, so chose not to run a PM system here when they started this forum.

Once you get 50 posts and can e-mail people, you can do so either via their profile or via the little "Email poster" icon above a post which they've made - second from the left, which looks like a letter and envelope.

Some of the "perks" CCF offers are not clearly advertised to non-members, simply because we don't want people joining the forum and making a whole bunch of nonsense posts just to qualify to get the perks.

There are a couple of other perks which Adam didn't mention that become available once you get 50 posts:
- you can apply for a CCF image gallery, which allows much larger file downloads than the standard forum thread 100kb download limit.
- if you sell things on ebay, you can get an eBay Listing page.

Even though you as a new member can't send e-mails just yet, members who already have 50 posts can send e-mails to you, which you can reply to via your regular e-mail program. So the other option you have for contacting someone is to start a new forum thread in, say, the CCF Family subforum, titled "I need to contact [member X]", stating briefly the reason why you want to get in touch with them. It would then be up to that member whether they actually send you an e-mail or not.

yes, thanks for the info-- both the asker and answerers!

I had somewhat wondered myself, but (duh) never thought to just up and ask. I figured I was missing the appropriate section and then decided that it really didn't matter because I'm more of a lurker anyway, plus I'd get to the requisite number of posts eventually & just kind of figure it out then.

However there are advantages and disadvantages to both systems.
Mostly many individuals do not want their email addresses publicized. Occationally doing this makes some personal information available to those that know how to locate individuals via their email addresses.
Also, once an email address is known, some individuals allow many others to have that info and the email system becomes over loaded with junk mail. And even decent span blockers don't stop what appears to be a personal message.
A PM on a web site sort of stays individual. Regardless of who reads it, it still doesn't blast additional information outwards. Only what is being discussed. That is why even the PCGS and many other web sites do use PM's. And the PCGS web site with well over 31,582 members, appear to have no problem with a PM system.
Of course if this forum had problems with such a system, then that is a good reason not to have one.
I personally never use a PM and/or email unless absolutely necessary.

My understanding, jimineez, is that you can only respond to a "want to sell" or "want to trade" ads, you cannot be selling till you have 250 posts, no matter who and how badly wants to buy your stuff.

OK, are we sure on that? Makes sense to me. I guess that if he posts on the want to buy board, then I can't offer what I have & see if he has something he'll trade me, huh? Not trying to bend the rules, I just want to follow them & happen to see a guy wanting what I have! thanks...
