I don't know, but I would sure be suspicious of it. The texture of it makes it look like it might be a cast replica? Like I said I am not sure but I wouldn't be bid on it!

It looks like a severely corroded ground find that has been scrubbed, I don't think it would be worth more than $10-20 in that wretched condition

Porosity and extremely corroded. Biokemist6 is probably right about it being a dug and cleaned coin.

No kiddin, bio..? albumcollector - that was my initial thought, that it was a sand-cast replica. So noted biokemist, I'd have sworn it was a bad replica. Of course, I'm not bidding on it, but I wasn't sure if it was the kind of thing that should be reported. Glad I didn't! =) Thanks for the help!

IMO, that damaged hunk of metal is no better than a replica. 1931-S is fairly common for a semi-key and you should be able to find a nice undamaged example for the asking price of the set. With that corroded coin, the set is way overpriced.

Yeah, bio - no I'm not buying it. This is one of those coins I'll buy certified, and probably in person. But I'm glad to learn it's not a fake - this is some good ejumikation. =)
