My guess, and it's only a guess, is that this is some type of gaming token, as it has no country identifier or denomination, in fact no writing at all.

I would agree that it's not a genuine coin, though not for the reasons that jg stated.

The design is based on early Thailand coins, which don't have any lettering or denomination marks on them. However, when compared with a genuine coin, we see the design on this piece is somewhat simplified.

I'd need to check the Krause listings more closely before condemning it outright, but at the moment it's not looking good.

Found it. The 8 baht of 1863 (KM/Y# 15) looks more or less like this, though genuine coins have a much cruder elephant. This is probably a "jewellery copy" of the old coin.

Fascinating.....$5000 in gold weight......An 'extremely' rare $10000 collector's coin......I've seen this coin in 'Fine' with much sharper details than this NGC MS-62.....1864 is also a new date for me. Must be unique, which would boost the collector value even more. And you thought that it might be a 'copy'.....what a relief 'eh ?

Could you please post a photo of the NGC slab ? This is one great find.
