DCH: I had a look at your user profile. you are quite some coin identifier! What are your book references?

I must admit I do have a very scholarly reference book by Philip Grierson on 'The Coins of Medieval Europe' pbl. 1991 London. It covers European coinage from the end of the Roman Empire through to the fifteenth century. The bibliography at the back of this book is unbelievable, and has nearly 200 references.

I say that I must admit, because although I have read it in detail, that was too many years ago, and I need to review it.

sel_69l: I have over 100 books in my reference library and am always on the lookout for more. Around 25 of these cover various parts of medieval Europe. Grierson's book is a good historical reference, but is too broad and lacks the detail and size to be useful for identification. Most books on medieval Europe only cover one country or area.

My favorite book is 'Die Saurmasche Munzsammlung', available online at http://www.medievalcoinage.com/saur...ur/intro.htm
It covers minor coinage of the German states, Poland and a few others.

Check http://www.medievalcoinage.com/books/index.htm and http://www.coincoin.com/bkAA.htm Both of these sites have good descriptions/reviews of the books.
