I've been collecting coins for as long as I can remember.

Along the way I've saved a few notes.

I am now wanting to start a currency collection.

What books, magazines, websites, or general rules of thumb, etc. do you all recommend.

I have some star notes, Silver certs, red seals, blue seals, and some others, nothing special I guess. That's why I need help.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Hey there!
I would suggest "Paper Money of the United States. A Complete Illustrated Guide with Valuations" by Arthur L. Friedberg and Ira S. Friedberg
http://www.amazon.com/United-States...ds=friedberg
It's a great general reference but the pricing is the high end of retail.

Or if you're into nationals http://www.nbncensus.com/ is a great place to start. It's and online census of national notes including auction references of rare notes. It does cost about $100 a year to subscribe to but you can right that cost off as a charitable contribution to a non-profit company. It's run by Andrew Shiva who is both very well versed in and passionate about nationals.

Also, if you don't know about Heritage auctions I'd check out HA.com and poke around on there. It's a great reference.

Depending on where you are in the country you are there are 2 large paper shows held in Chicago. One in January called CPMX and one in Oct called the PCDA show. As well as a show held in June in Memphis. These are the three largest currency shows in the country and are a GREAT learning experience. I was just at the Memphis show in June and they had 12 different one hour education sessions on everything from $1 legal tender notes to Nationals. I sat in on 11 of them and I feel like I learned a lot.

I really hope this helped. This is all I can think of for now but I'll keep on thinking for ya.

Happy Collecting!

The books and sources you want depends on what kind of collection you're planning on. Looking at what you're keeping I would say small size notes are the goal. The book mentioned is a good one but if you are planning on moving on to Large size notes or even world paper money you would need other books.

The Standard Catalog of United States Paper Money is a good book to have. It shows both large and small size notes and even some other notes printed by the U.S

World Paper Money printed by KP is useful for world paper money, Its the same as the huge coin encyclopedia,

Coin World magazine usually has a few articles on paper notes too.

Some useful websites are:
The IBNS
SPMC

And also some good suppliers of supplies to protect your notes.:

JP's Corner
Wizard Coin Supply
Jake's Marketplace
