One of the elusive Philippine Counterstamped coins in the market is this 1835 YII Colombia 8 reales. The size of this 8 reales is way smaller than the normal South American 8 reales. the only Pearl formation that you can see in this host coin is 5-4-3, and this is due to the date of the host coin 1835.

The host coin is hard to find. There is also countermarked on Chile independent peso. I like the one countermarked as Guatemala, can you post some of it? The most rare philipines c/m coin could be the one c/m as manila,I saw it from goldberg actions.

Quote: I wondered if you have any early Mexico 8Reales with the Phillippines counterstamp of Ferdinand VII. Yes and I will be posting them continously here if my time permits. to the community barrogak Quote: I like the one countermarked as Guatemala, can you post some of it? Me too nicolashsing, the 1827 NG YII that has the inscription Republica del Centro De America were among my faves. The host coin guatemala is the same as the 1826 Avatar of Barrogak. Yes I usually sell my duplicates at ebay and sometimes if there are much rarer find available, I tend to sacrifice the ones in my albums in exchange of the proceeds for the rarer ones. But most of the time, as we all do, we always upgrade our collection Quote: Very nice rare find Thanks Echizento

Where did you get that 1822 coin from? It looks too good to be true. Maybe the way the picture is taken it looks too perfect! It also looks like it has luster or been artificially toned.

Chops The coin was acquired in an auction in Mexico. It has the right weight, and has the correct edge. So the coin is probably not a counterfeit. Now, about the counterstamp, I am not an expert. It is a scan, not a photo and the color is not correct. What appears as a pink patina is luster, the coin is in really good condition, probably AU. I know Iturbide 8 Reales counterstamped with YII are rare, and in such nice condition, double rare. The question is, is it possible such an occurrence?

The Iturbide looks real, the counterstamp doesn't. I've seen several such coins in the past year or so - genuine coins with a fake YII counterstamp. I'd post it over on Manila Galleon Trade and ask for their opinion. They are specialists in the field. [ http://manilagalleontrade.webs.com/...18081833.htm ]

I would say the counterstamp looks very convincing. I looks more genuine that it does fake. The pearl formation is correct but the only doubt would be the left sided ones look a bit mis-shapen which would draw a little suspicion. I would estimate the value if genuine to be around $2000+ only because of the condition. I would say 70% convinced its genuine 30% I would say chance the c/stamp is fake. The host coin is absolutely genuine. Hope this helps.
