Hi!
i am posting from the U.K.I have accquired a Silver fifty dollars octagonal coin which has all detail as the famous gold panama pacific coin of the same denomination. It is stamped on the edge with 5.T.O .999 SILVER ( I PRESUME TROY OUNCES AND IT WEIGHS THAT) and also has a serial number on it.Can anyone tell me anything about this ie: who issued it when where etc.. I can find no resources for it only the valuable gold issue.
What is its current value and is it classed as currency or bullion. It appears proof like.
I appreciate any comments and time you give in answering my queries.
Regards,
Jim Edited by bambamheskey 08/06/2006 10:46 am

Jim, First let me say welcome to the CC forums. Second,It would help if you could post a picture of the coin you have. I personally don't have any info on this coin but I'm sure there are others here that would.

bambamheskey: I found this reference: http://www.coinresource.com/guide/e...ic_fifty.htm It would appear that they did make a Silver Commemorative also. Atleast this article indicates that. Now as far as value? I'll have to keep looking on that one and # minted and so forth. Or, someone else on the forum who is more knowledgeable will beat me to the answer - which is a good thing!

I can see no initials for the artist robert aitken as described on gold originals or a mintmark.Im convinced that this is a piece minted after the event so to speak

Yes, those are replicas put out by The Singapore Mint. They come in 5 ounce and 10 ounce weights. They are .999 pure silver. The value would be melt value of silver I believe. You could probably get a little more on ebay. Here is a link to one currently running on good old ebay. http://cgi.ebay.com/Panama-Pacific-...99_W0QQitemZ160012774224QQihZ006QQcategoryZ39489QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
