Does anyone know where I can see a list of Key, and Semi Key Morgans. If it listed the common ones also that would be great too. I would like to print it and take it with me when I go coin shopping. Thanks,

There's a list on coinfacts (PCGS). I've copied it into a spreadsheet - send me an e-mail and I'll reply with it attached as an xls. =)

You can also just take a look at the RedBook. While the mintages don't tell the complete story due to meltings, you can still get a pretty good idea when you look at pricing.

Thanks Gothic Florin, I thought about that and I do have a copy of the RedBook but I thought there might be some more things to consider than just mintage.

On Morgans mintage doesn't mean much. In fact ignore the mintages in the RedBook and look instead at the prices in the lowest grade listed (VF-20). It is pretty obvious which ones are the commons. The rest are either keys or semi-keys. hey become pretty obvious as well. If the VF price is more than an order of magnitude higher than the common date price I would probably consider it to be a key. Studying the prices can also identify condition rarities as well. You will see that there are no pieces that are commons in VF that aren't also commons in XF, but when you move higher than XF some of those commons make a sudden upward jump in price compared to the other commons. The 1897 and 97-O make a good example. In VF both are common, same for XF. But when you move to AU the 97 just goes up a couple dollars while the 97-O is around 6 times the XF price. (Note, I don't care what the actual prices are, I'm looking at the relationships BETWEEN the prices.)

Uhm... no. I just did a search on Google, it came up with a coinfacts page (PCGS) that listed all of the morgans and their mintages and a couple of notes next to some that had particular varieties. I copied and pasted it into a spreadsheet and now he has a list. I figure he can delete the coins he doesn't care about, or what I've done in the past is just use another column to type in the lowest price grade from Red Book or NGC or something so I have some idea if I'm getting a reasonable deal. If you wanted to take that to another level, you could add another column for EF or AU or MS... It's a lot easier (and less conspicuous) than carrying around your Red Book.
