Hi, I'm wondering if my Washington quarter's rim is just half worn, or?

Its a 1984 P - has a totally plugged P but thats not what I'm interested most in.

The reeded flat of the rim shows both copper and silver, half copper-half silver all around the coin. The obverse and reverse are silver. Just the rim shows copper half edging the reverse side. Not sure if this is just worn off rim silver, or was it made like that?

Sorry but there's no way I can take or show an image of the rim in my scanner :D

By the way, I bought 2 rolls of nickels and a few rolls of pennies from my bank today. Quite a few US pennies. One a 1955D ... sadly not the major DD. Drat! One nickel roll only had 10 Canadian nickels in it and the rest were USA nickels :)

1957 no mint mark
1964 no mint mark

What you have described is perfectly normal. Get a handful of quarters and look at the edges. When the blanks are punched from the strip the layers "smear" in an upward direction. This smears the bottom clad layer over part of the copper and the copper over the upper clad layer. The top clad layer has no place to go so it shows either as a very tn layer, or often is not visible at all from the edge.

Thanks Conder. Was hoping it was something extra special. Now I know they're no big deal and will just spend them :D
