I hope our modern commemoratives look that cool in 100 years.

Quote: Yes they will be graded That is good to hear. A full set like this could bring moon money if all the pieces grade MS. Best of luck!

Thanks. When the HA specialist examined the set, he thought they would all grade 65-66. I hope so too!

Geepers ..... if all four coins grade MS65 ..... then the combined wholesale value of them as individual coins is a stunning $148,000. The Big Dog here is your $50 coin ..... At MS65 ..... CDN 'ask' is $138,000 At MS66 .... CDN 'ask' is $210,000 Consider all this with the full packaging from 1915 and ...... if truly MS65 and better coins ..... this will be a fun lot to watch at auction. I hereby change my hammer guess ...... now $230,000. Keep us posted on the auction results ..... and best wishes. David

Wow. My family has collected nothing like that! I'm very jealous.

My great great uncle bought the set at the exposition and to my knowledge they have always sat in a saftey deposit box until now.
He was a world traveler and knew a good looking coin when he saw it.

Thanks for posting that bobby! The October 2010 greysheet I have infront of me lists the asking price for these in the grades listed above as follows The half at $710 The dollar at $975 in MS64 The quarter eagle at $5875 the $50 piece at $77,000
I would expect them all to go for much more than that though especially the dollar and $50 gold piece (there arnt many up for sale at any given time) The box to should go for a heafty sum, though I have never seen one up at auction before. -XoG

I checked some completed listings and couldn't find results a single piece in 64+. Being as the + designation is relatively new and there's not a lot of these G$1 around, it's possible this is will be the first 64+ auctioned. Plenty of 64s and 65s have sold though and I'm guessing the G$1 will bring $1,000 without a problem. If it goes for under $1000, I may be the new owner.

These auctions are now live on Heritage. Bid early and bid often - that $50 gold octagon needs a new home!
