Before the Olympic issue there was just a handful of commem. roubles, and they were very common in circulation (more common than non-commem. ones). The Olympic series was the first intended for collecting. For a long time people called any commem. roubles "olympic roubles".
While the larger denominations were issued in precious metals (silver, platinum), one rouble coins were all Cu-Ni. Although there was a relatively small portion of them in Proof which is listed in Krause quite a bit pricier.
