Good Evening,

Eventho I'm new, I feel that keeping a lot of those coins that are duplicates will be in your best interest. Could work out in your favor if you decide to open a business, etc.

I personally don't keep duplicates in my collection. Any "better" coins I obtain duplicates for usually go into my coin club auction (which is always looking for material). The rest all go into a duplicates tray, which is currently acting as a doorstop. Constantly seeing it there (and tripping over it) will hopefully prompt me to action and take it to a coin dealer. So far, that strategy doesn't appear to be working, because that thing's been sitting there for months now.

I tend to keep all my coins. I tell my wife I will sell them once I get a duplicate. Once I do I tell her ill sell them once I get a full roll for that year. I have maybe 10-15 rolls of 1964 halfs. She has no idea I have that many and I plan to keep it that way. I guess I keep them so I could help out another friend if he was looking for a special coin.

If they are in holders (2X2's, flips etc) I throw them into a box in the corner. If they are loose they sit around on desks, tables etc untill I clean up and then some of them wind up in one of my change containers. I know I have a bottle on the counter right now which has, along with pocket change, large cents, Two Cent, Indian cents, foreigns, seated material etc in it.

nice desk....ohhh and the coins are cool too LOL

If my extras have any decent value over BV maybe like $5.00 I keep them in boxes like yours...they can be good traders. Any that are pure BV I roll and cash in.

I place coins mostly in Albums. Over the years as I acquire a better coin than is in an Album, it goes in and the one that comes out goes into a 2x2 and into those long, two row boxes. If I come accross a new Album of coins I may have duplicates of, I start a Duplicate Album, naturally in a lesser grade than #1. I've been able to talk dealers at coin shows to just give me any Albums they don't want since they bought them for the coins and removed all the coins. Mostly in the past they throw them out. Due to this I have now well over 100 Albums, not exactly sure how many and most all full. I get an Album and fill with coins from the 2x2 duplicate boxes.
As examples of this I'm now on set #12 of Mercury dimes, #10 of Lincoln Cents, etc.
I never sell coins although in the past I've given many to YN's.
The biggest problem with this system is if I acquire a fantastic coin that should go into Album #1, then I must move the one from #1 to #2. Then the one from #2 to #3, #3 to #4 and on and on and on. That is where the fun really ends and my fingers get tired too.

My doubles are mostly low value world circulating coins, and they have built up in several boxes over time. About 25% are in 2X2s and the rest are loose.
My intention is to find some collectors with similar interests and do some bulk trades. Once I have been here for a while, I will explore the trading forum.
