Some of the nicer error coins are from the 1970's, 1960's and earlier..In our modern times with advanced improvements, technical resources and higher quality control at the Royal Canadian Mint...Do you think that interest in mint error coins will increase in both interest and value....

Mint errors are a funny business. They go in and out of fashion. As time goes on collectors find new anomalies and old ones sometimes are discovered to be more common than originally thought. As grading services, auction houses, and coin guides institutionalize mint errors they increase the value.

It is hoped the longer you hang on to a coin it will increase in value. For the most part they do, however many coins only retain their melt value.

Case in point - Charton's recently threw a spotlight on large cents. Suddenly people are going to look at their collection in a new light. A penny that may have been worth a few bucks rises in value as people want to collect variations.

I don't really care what the market does for any branch of numismatics. If I am interested in that area. I will try to build a collection in it, in this case, mint errors. Stunet is right; they can go in and out of fashion, I just humbly continue to collect anything nice that comes my way, and I am rather satisfied with the collection of mint errors that I have. In some cases I have coins in my collection that I have not seen elsewhere.

The big bonus of course, is that I have learned a huge amount about how coins are made, and what are the factors that contribute to mint errors. Lots of magazine articles have been written over the years that have helped me. And you can have great fun contributing on a forum such as this with other folks' error coins.

That is where the REAL value lies.

I made a point on another post about a collection being what someone makes it and I truly believe that. If error coins do it for you then by all means collect them and enjoy.....

for me and I would assume(maybe I shouldn't ) most in the hobby collecting is all about the fun and the thrill of filling that hole in the book or the awesome find in change and less about the future value of the coins...if our collection increases in value than bonus but that is not the main reason I collect.

Well,I would think that most of us collectors would rather have coins that we paid say $100 have a BV greater than lower even if we do not collect for money.
I have seen the value of my collection melt away in the past 3 years and I anxiously wait for it to go back up.I still view a high end collection as an investment not that I will unload it soon.I guess it is like stock, you haven't lost until the dea you sell it.

I bought 8 rolls of pennies from my bank last week, in SE BC, a real mix of dates but quite a few 2009 and a lesser number of 2010 all with L (Logo)

Only ONE magnetic 2010 with Logo.

Really....in only 8 rolls? I've gone through many cent boxes and I've stopped checking my 2010 cents. I wonder if the magnetic cents were recently released into circulation...

Did you mean "rolls" or BOXES?
Because I have searched through probably 10-12,000 pennies in the last six months and have yet to find a 2010 magnetic.
During that time I found a 1948 A to denticle, 1965 pointed 5 and 2 2006 no p, no mintmark magnetics.
I am happy to hear that the 2010 magnetics exist and I am not wasting my time.

Splatto,

Sorry I can't find a link to "quote" posts, so not quoting your back a couple of posts.

I may be in error about that 2010 magnetic as I've either lost track of it in all the piles of pennies, or perhaps it was a different year I mistakenly put in with the 2010's when sorting dates. I'm just starting this coin thing so haven't gotten really organized and systematic as yet. I'll scan all my 2010's with my magnet and will report back whether I really do have onee or not. Sorry for the confusion everyone!!

So I checked my 2010's, including the one's I'm saving, and I can find NO magnetic one. I was either wrong, or tossed it back into a roll. I apologize if I messed up and steered people wrong (blush)

For the record, this site lists 2010 as having both magnetic and non-magnetics for this year BUT shows no mintage circulation numbers for it.
