I think its called a cap. my brother found them on ebay for less than 10 bucks. I wonder if those were american since I didnt see any in these pages, and from these pages have learned that defects are more common in american coins. Report this Post to the Staff

laconic Valued Member Canada 168 Posts	Posted 08/31/2010 09:26 am Defects happen in every country, even with the 2010 modern technology. A capped coin is one that gets stuck and is struck repeatedly in the machine, crating a cap on one side. Yours looks unstruck on the one side so perhaps it flipped out of the press after the reverse strike. I am not sure what they call this scenario but a nice coin either way! wazzappenning Valued Member Canada 329 Posts	Posted 08/31/2010 1:01 pm i was guessing that it gets struck between two dies and that one was just not there. the blank side has some texture. sort of looks like it was struck by a cast metal. the lip makes it look like it got pushed too far down in the collar? also I found this in pocket change, and am really surprised no one else spotted it.
