In terms of Modern work, check out the offerings from Belarus. You might be surprised.

I've always been partial to Chinese and Mexican designs, as well.

Being from Oz. the Limeys, 'Poms' to us, are our heritage pre 1800, so I naturally have a lot of interest in Pommie coins. My son has a nearly complete type set of English / British shillings dating from the start of milled coinage in 1662, to present. I have a rather nice George 1V five sovereign of 1937 in FDC.

The term Pom is probably related the early Australian colonies being convict colonies from Great Britain. The original term was probably 'pohm' which is "Prisoner of His Majesty". As I understand, the American term 'Limey' for a Brit. is related to British sailors in the time of Captain Cook being forced to drink lime juice to prevent scurvy on board ship. Captain Cook discovered the East coast of Oz. in 1770; we have coins to commemorate that event.

I used to think that as well, but then several years ago someone told me that it was from pomegranate.

"The origin of this term is not confirmed and there are several persistent false etymologies."

Thanks for all the suggestions. I do agree that France and italy have some gorgeous Circulating coins.

The more and more I think and look, I just keep getting drawn to Mexico. I love the history and art present on their coinage.

But please. keep the suggestions and pictures coming!

I second Morocco. They're designs are just wild. Some may say "too crowded", but I think the designs are well proportioned and throughly thought-out. Like this '21 50 centimes:
