My father has recently given me a set of silver Eagles from 1986-2005. He bought them from the Shop at Home Network for 399.95 in 2005. These coins come in a box with an American Bald eagle on it and it says. "United States of America American Eagle Program" They are nicely arranged in plastic 4x6" protectors covered by a decretive cardboard. My question is. Should I get the Set graded by and agency like PCGS or NGC. He gave me 2 2005 ones graded by these agencies. He also gave me a 2006 coin of the same type ungraded. 2. He gave me 10 rolls of 2005 Buffalo Jefferson nickels unopened, are they worth anything and should I have them graded as well.

Hi ring87
Welcome to the forum !!
without a good look at the Eagles its really hard to say if the investment of grading would be worthwhile,,
as for the new buff nickels, what type of rolls are they in ? and can you tell which mint they are from ?
these nickels have not gained alot from face value ,, but there have been a few varieties found which have some fair premiums attached to them .
with the answers to the questions we maybe able to help with descriptions of those varieties.
Rick

Hi ring87, and welcome to the forum. What a fabulous gift from your father! If you have a photo of the silver Eagles, you should scan it and put it in your next post. It would give you a chance to brag, ahem, I mean share! And I know I would love to see them.

Do you have the ability to post pictures here? It would be best to get some grading opinions prior to sending any in. Unless the grades come back MS69 or 70, there is no real premium attached to a graded ASE. You can upload as many pics as you want. I would suggest uploading each as its own topic in the Coin Grading Practice forum. Also, from what I've seen, the top-tier grading companies are grading very conservatively right now. I'm sure it is only a matter of time before the pendulum starts to swing back to less strict grading. Don't get me wrong, I am a conservative grader myself, but I've seen many coins coming back undergraded, especially if they are considered common. This is something else to consider. Hope this helps you out.

Isn't the new Buffalo nickel the ones that the mint started reselling from their unsold 2005 stock? if it is the price has plummeted on these things because they are redily available from the US mint again. That being said if you happen to have the famous "speared Buffalo" in one of them rolls then you have a good find but chances are very slim of that happening

I would stay for you to keep them in the holder they are in right now. I have ssen the ones on TV and they are nice looking. I think if you were to send them in to be graded it might be hard for you to get your money back out of them. since the top 2 Grading companys are a little pricey plus you do not know what grade you will get back form them. So unless you are looking at this a only a investment then hard to say but if you are a collector I think it is fine how they are. Also you might want to check out ebay and compare what you have to what the grade sets in Ms68-ms70 are going for to see if it is worth 200 dollar to get them graded

From a collector's standpoint, I would leave them as is - after the 25th year of mintage, it may be decided to discontinue this coin, and, should that happen, there's nowhere for them to go but up. Just my opinion.
