The 1896 O is one of several extreme conditional rarities in the Morgan dollar series in grades of AU and above. It is typically found with a weak srike and dull luster. As you can see from the prongs, this coin has been graded by NGC.

I gotta say, this one looks mint state. The quality and intensity of luster in protected areas around the legends matches the luster in the open fields and that is not the case for AU coins. With the weak strike and assorted marks limiting the grade I'd guess MS-61 or MS-62. If NGC was unwilling to create wealth by calling it MS it should at least make AU-58.

Looks like a valuable coin to me! If it is yours Biokemist, congrats!
Rest in Peace

Reverse is gorgeous and marks are scattered. MS-63 I wouldn't be surprised if it got bumped to 62 due to the huge value difference but I think it really is 63, at least for the date.

Oh thats very cool. My vote is 58 slider or 61/62. Excellent reverse strike for an O!

I will, in a very rare instance, disagree with Jaobler. AU55, and at the top of the grade for that.

New Orleans issues are tough to grade but this coin exudes a circulated appearance to me. I fully agree with the range of grades already noted and could see this coin anywhere from AU53 to MS63 with 63 being very generous.

Okay, my guess is AU58!
