Yesterdays WSJ had an interesting article on the return of gold and silver to Islamic Malaysian markets. Gold Dinars and Silver Dirhmas are being sold to replace printed Malaysian currency in some areas.

Anyone know how to get some of these gold and silver coins? They're supposed to be new and all I get from the Internet is old coins.

Also, do you think this will start a trend back to gold and silver coinage?

They can be bought here, although I read elsewhere they quickly sold out. https://www.e-dinar.com

See this thread.

As I mentioned there, they're just quasi-official bullion rounds, not "coins"; the only novelty with them is they're struck to the old Islamic standards, rather than the Western standard of ounces.

A little expensive don't you think; 4.5g, 22k coin for almost $170. The Canadian mint only wants $74 Canadian for its .999, 5.0g Caribou. Watch out, it's what the market will bear.
